Hear a short phrase on a real sampled instrument — legato, staccato and other articulations — and guess which instrument it is.
Couldn’t load the samples. The first load needs an internet connection (samples come from a CDN, then the browser caches them).
Tap an instrument to hear it. Change the articulation and scale in the settings below.

How it works
The idea
The instrument plays a short phrase in a random scale, with a changing articulation — so you learn the timbre itself, not a fixed pattern.
Real samples (MusyngKite / soundfont). The first load of each instrument takes a moment; after that it is instant (cached).
After an answer, «⚖️ Compare» plays the correct instrument and then the one you guessed, on the same phrase, so you can hear the difference.
«🎲 Another phrase» plays a new phrase on the same instrument — good for learning its sound.
The modes
Name the instrument — guess the exact instrument from the level’s pool.
Name the family — family only: strings / woodwind / brass / keyboard / pitched percussion.
Instrument pair — two instruments play together: unison (same notes) or second voice (harmony a third / sixth apart). Mark both instruments and press «Check». «⚖️» plays each instrument alone, then together.
Library — free listening to every instrument (not scored).
